Brussels, 08/04/2005 (Agence Europe) - Jean-Louis Schiltz, Luxembourg minister for cooperation and chair of the Council of the EU, will represent the EU at the international conference of donors for Sudan, to be held in Oslo on 11 and 12 April. The objective is to call on the generosity of donors to provide some of the 8 billion dollars deemed necessary to cover the country's estimated needs up to the end of 2007, and start to rebuild the South of the country. Work will focus on the implementation of the peace agreement signed in January between Khartoum and the former rebels of southern Sudan, and on the situation in Darfur, paying particular attention to respect for human rights and the return of refugees and displaced persons.
