GENERAL NEWS / (eu) ep/april fool

04/04/2005 (Agence Europe) - British Labour member Richard Corbett launched an idea on April 1st to put an end to the quarrels over the seat of the European institutions. In his April Fool's joke, the MEP noted that the search for a capital of the EU has lasted decades. He stresses the main difficulty to find “a central location which embodies the ideal of European unity without giving preference to any Member State”. His solution is to “locate both Parliament and the Commission offices on one of the planet Jupiter's largest moons”. Corbett comments: “From now on, there will be no more wasteful shuttling between Brussels and Strasbourg. We will all simply catch a direct shuttle to the outer edge of the solar system, together with our entire legislative agenda. That should please eurosceptics, too. They all think we're on another planet in any case”.
