Juncker says "setbacks" such as the British "cheque" should not become generalised - Supporting dialogue between euro zone's economic and monetary poles

Brussels, 04/01/2005 (Agence Europe) - Most EU Member States are not in favour of bringing in a generalised correcting mechanism which would extend the British "cheque" system (granted to Ms Thatcher by the European Council of June 1984 in Fontainebleau) to the main contributors to the Community budget, the president of the European Council, Jean-Claude Juncker, told Le Monde on 4 January when asked about the debate concerning the financial perspectives 2007-2013.
