04/01/2005 (Agence Europe) - A Council regulation on the protection of the euro against the unlawful use of medals and tokens presenting external aspects similar to euro coins was published in the Official Journal of 21 December 2004. The text specifies the conditions for the production, sale, importation and distribution of such medals and tokens for different commercial purposes. It is up to Member States to define the system of sanctions to be imposed.
