Slight increase in asylum applications, but still below last year's level

Brussels, 19/11/2004 (Agence Europe) - The number of asylum applications submitted in the European Union increased 6% from the second to the third quarter of 2004, but remains 20% lower than last year's level, the UN High Commission for Refugees (HCR) has indicated in its latest quarterly statistics.
