Barroso announces anti-discrimination initiatives and indicates his support for possible modifications to his team during mandate - he has massive support but only from EPP-ED and UEN - new appeals to transfer Buttiglione (but also appeals to keep him where he his) - Barroso rejects criticism of not respecting MEPs

Strasbourg, 26/10/2004 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday the president-designate, José Manuel Barroso announced that "this Commission is worthy of your confidence and deserves your support". He also announced new initiatives concerning his wish for the Commission to be the most advanced body "in the promotion of freedoms, civil rights and non discrimination". However, neither this announcement nor his reminder that, if necessary, he would introduce modifications to the Commissioners' portfolios...
