Brussels, 13/10/2004 (Agence Europe) - On 6-7 October in Ekaterinbourg (Russian Federation) the Pompidou Group from the Council of Europe organised the first European Forum on the Prevention of Drug Addiction. More than a hundred young people, experts and political decision-makers were able to debate the combined use of drugs (alcohol, tobacco, illegal and recreational drugs) and new trends in youth culture. The objective was to build partnerships to prevent abuse and promote the active participation of young people in the elaboration, implementation and assessment of prevention programmes. The first European prize for prevention was awarded at this event.
The Pompidou Group, which currently includes 34 Member States, is the main European cooperation forum for adopting an overall multidisciplinary approach of problems linked to the drug abuse and trafficking (Info: http://www.coe.int ).
