Brussels, 08/09/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Congress of Local and Regional Powers of the Council of Europe, the European Association of Historic Towns and Regions and the City of Norwich are organising on 9-10 September in Norwich, a conference on "Heritage for the Future" in an effort to assess the economic effects of better evaluation of European cultural heritage. Halvdan Skard, president of the Chamber of Local Powers of the Congress of the Council of Europe said that, "Europe is exceptionally rich in terms of cultural heritage but there is a real danger throughout the continent that some of the potential benefits of this heritage, including support for economic development and social inclusion and environmental protection are put on the sidelines". The conference will also examine projects that have succeeded in the past and the way in which new technologies can help protect and promote cultural heritage in the future.
