Court notes imperfections of Finnish law on protection of nature compared to requirements set out in European environmental directive

Luxembourg, 22/07/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Court of Justice rules that 1996 Finnish law on the protection of nature remains too general compared to the requirements set out in the European directive of 1992 on the conservation of natural habitats, fauna and flora. The Finnish government has admitted that it was in the wrong. The law on nature protection does not state sufficiently clearly that the projects that should undergo an environmental impact assessment in accordance to this law...
