Brussels, 22/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - Pascal Lamy, European Trade Commissioner, and Japanese Trade Minister Shoichi Nakagawa announced on Monday in Tokyo, on the fringe of the EU/Japan Summit (see below), their intention to take a joint initiative with a view to finding consensus within the WTO by end July on the modalities and the approach to be followed in order to finalise multilateral talks at the WTO (Doha Round). Japanese and Europeans agree to say that an agreement may be found, even in the field of agriculture and on the three main issues outstanding: export subsidies, internal subsidies and market access, the Japanese minister added.
