First Troika between EU and Serbia-Montenegro

Brussels, 16/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Irish Foreign Minister, Brian Cowen, his Dutch counterpart Bernard Bot, the High Representative for CFSP, Javier Solana, and the deputy Commissioner for External Relations, Janez Potocnik, met Serbia-Montenegro's Foreign Minister, Vuk Draskovic, in Luxembourg on Tuesday. At the first EU/Serbia-Montenegro Troika as part of reinforced political dialogue between the EU and the Balkans, instituted at the Thessaloniki Summit of 2003, discussions focused on the development of relations between the EU and Serbia-Montenegro, and the situation in Kosovo. The Ministers also voiced their hopes that the second round of presidential elections in Serbia, to take place on 27 June, will see a high turnout, and that the results will strengthen the prospects of a democratic Serbia within Europe. At the first round, last Sunday, the ultra-nationalist leader, Tomislav Nikolic, beat the pro-European Boris Tadic.
