On 22 April in Strasbourg, the European Parliament approved the proposals made by European Commissioner Michel Barnier (who has since become French Foreign Minister) for cohesion policy in the period after 2006, and endorsed by the European Commission. With the adoption of the Hatzidakis report and in spite of some criticism, the Parliament backed the suggestions of this third report on cohesion.
