PES elects Poul Nyrup Rasmussen as president, Giuliano Amato as first vice president and adopts manifesto - seeks signing of constitution in Madrid

Brussels, 26/04/2004 (Agence Europe) - During its congress on 24 April in Brussels, the Party of European Socialists (PES) adopted its election manifesto for the European elections for 10-13 June and elected a successor to its president Robin Cook.

European Socialists had to choose between the former Danish Prime Minister Poul Nyrup Rasmussen and the former Italian Prime Minister Amato Giuliano (who was also vice president of the European Convention). Rassmussen won a very tight race: 163...
