06/04/2004 (Agence Europe) - Industrial policy in an enlarged Europe should take greater account of the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in the social economy of the accession countries, according to an own-initiative opinion by Lucia Fusco, the director of the Brussels office of the national league of co-operatives and mutual societies (LEGACOOP), adopted by the EESC. The European Economic and Social Committee calls upon the European institutions to "develop in-depth dialogue with all institutions representing and managers of SMEs and social economy businesses from the accession countries, together to meet the challenges these businesses will face during the accession process".
