Strasbourg, 06/04/2004 (Agence Europe) - The EP has approved a proposal designed to modify certain fourth protocol provisions establishing possibilities to fish in Greenland waters, for the period 1 January 2001 to 31 December 2006. The report by Rosa Miguelez Ramos (Socialists, Spain) was adopted on Thursday in Strasbourg by 299 votes in favour, 101 against, and 16 abstentions. The proposal provides for the following changes to the current protocol between the EU and Greenland (see also EUROPE of 28 June 2003): abolition of "paper fish" (for cod, blue marlin, capelin, and redfish and bass in western waters); - a quota hike of 800 tonnes (t) for Atlantic halibut, 4200 tonnes for black halibut in eastern waters and 4000 tonnes for shrimp in western waters; - a quota of 1000 tonnes for queen crab and a further 2000 tonne quota for all by-catches.
