Commission asks United Kingdom to bring Sellafield into line with Euratom Treaty rules

Brussels, 31/03/2004 (Agence Europe) - On Tues, the United Kingdom received a request from the European Commission to end a situation in its Sellafield nuclear plant which is viewed as unacceptable. Loyola de Palacio said: "The Commission is responsible for checking that the Member States comply with the provisions in the Euratom Treaty; it is essential that these checks can be carried out".
