Brussels, 29/03/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Luxembourg Communist Party is not represented at the European Parliament or at the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies. All the same, it is fielding twelve candidates, including six European citizens from other Member States (Portugal, Spain, Italy and Germany). The list is headed by a 59-year old teacher, Zénon Bernard. The list includes a 65-year old trade union activist, Fernand Hubsch, and the president of the party, Ali Ruckert (49), a journalist.
Another party on the Left, Déi Lénk, is putting forward a list, with little hope of an MEP being elected from is. It includes the party's only national parliamentarian Serge Urbany (52) and the former parliamentarian André Hoffmann who is currently deputy mayor at Esch-sur-Alzette. The Déi Lenk list is the only one at the moment headed by a woman, Giuseppina Amendola-Panza. Women make up the top five names on the list.
Highly represented at the Chamber of Deputies, the Comité d'action pour la démocratie et des justes pensions does not have any MEPs. It is putting forward a list headed by parliamentarian Gaston Gybérien (54) who was a deputy Member of the European Convention. Other parliamentarians are also on this list, including Jean Colombera (50), Fernand Greisen (59), Jacques-Yves Henckes (58), Aly Jaerling (56), Jemp Koepp (70) and Robert Mehlen (55).
