EP calls on Member States to support and ratify European penitentiary charter at Council of Europe

Strasbourg, 15/03/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament has called on Member States to support the adoption of a Charter at the Council of Europe to improve condition sin European prisons. By adopting the report of Italian Radical Maurizio Turco last week by a huge majority (439 votes for, 49 against, 20 abstentions), the EP is calling on the EU to support the "elaboration of a European penitentiary charter for all ms of the Council of Europe".
