European railways are concerned about decline in rail traffic and call for greater effort in favour of rail transport

Brussels, 19/02/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Community of European Railways (CER) is calling for rapid adoption of proposals on the second rail package, the pricing of heavy vehicles using road infrastructures ("Eurovignette") and the European trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) to help the European rail sector. This is a sector which is in real need as, according to figures provided by the CER, passenger and freight transport by rail declined in 2003 throughout Community territory.
