Brussels, 19/02/2004 (Agence Europe) - Public administrations which combine the use of information and communications technologies (ICT) to provide new services with the reorganisation of the way they work get higher appreciations ratings from business and citizens; This finding emerges from "Reorganisation of Government Back Offices for Better Electronic Services- European Good Practices", a survey funded by the European Commission as part of the comparative assessment of the action plan eEurope. According to the Commission, the best results are due to the fact that combining use of ICT with reorganisation helps to bring costs down and increase productivity, reach greater flexibility and achieve simpler organisational structures. It also helps administrative systems to work together better, and to improve the working environment for the staff. The practical advantages for the public and for business are fewer visits to administrations, faster, cheaper, more accessible and more efficient services, but also fewer mistakes, greater openness, more useable system s and greater user control.
