19/02/2004 (Agence Europe) - At the 20th anniversary, on 14 February, of the adoption by the European Parliament of the constitutional treaty proposed by Altiero Spinelli, MEP Jo Leinen, president of the Union of European Federalists (UEF), insisted that: "Europe must not go forward unwillingly" and should not go back to the intergovernmental practices of the past. The Secretary general of the UEF Bruno Boissière (former MEP) said that the first European Constitution should not be adopted before the European elections next June. The UEF is therefore calling on the European Parliament to coordinate, together with the national parliaments, all initiatives to get the EU to approve the draft Convention before the European elections.
