Five producer countries continue to form block against proposals to reform tobacco sector - no agreement in sight on Mediterranean products before Council end March

Brussels, 17/02/2004 (Agence Europe) - Discussions held on Monday afternoon at the Special Agriculture Committee (SAC) confirmed that the most heated criticism against the reform proposals for Mediterranean products (tobacco, olive oil and cotton) concern aid to the production of raw tobacco. The Irish Presidency has stated its intention to present compromise texts on Mediterranean products and the hop sector during the Council on 22 and 23 March, after the opinion of the European Parliament...
