Hans-Peter Martin expelled

Strasbourg, 13/02/2004 (Agence Europe) - Austrian MEP Hans-Peter Martin can no longer take part in activities of the Party of European Socialists (PES) at the European Parliament. According to a member of the PES, Hans-Peter Martin excluded himself after attempting to prevent some of his colleagues from signing an attendance register and criticising behaviour concerning such registers, fees and the reimbursement of expenses by his colleagues. Spanish PES President Enrique Baron asked him to make a formal apology to German Christian Democrats Rosemarie Müller and Willi Görlach, but the Austrian MEP refused despite knowing that he would be refused entry to the PES' meetings if he failed to apologise. Martin had already left the SPÖ.
