Brussels, 13/02/2004 (Agence Europe) - The 7th EP-Egypt interparliamentary meeting will be held in Cairo on 14 to 18 February. The European Parliament will be represented by members of the delegation for cooperation with the Maghreb. Discussions will cover progress in cooperation with Egypt and the implementation criteria for the Association Agreement signed in June 2001 but not yet ratified (Austria still needs to ratify it). In the meantime, trade reports are covered by an interim agreement that came into place on 1 January 2004. Both sides will exchange views on changes in their regions (enlargement, the Middle East and Iraq) and on preparations for the establishment of a Joint Parliamentary Assembly under the EuroMed process. Egypt has put itself forward (informally so far) to chair the Assembly.
