So far only two of the fifteen current EU Member States intend to open up their employment markets to workers from new Member States - Restrictions announced in Germany, Belgium, Austria and Finland, with uncertainty in other countries

Brussels, 05/02/2004 (Agence Europe) - At this stage, only two of the fifteen current Member States - Ireland and the United Kingdom - have told the European Commission of their intention to fully open up their employment markets from the day of enlargement, on 1 May 2004, to workers from the eight new Member States of Central and Eastern Europe (Malta and Cyprus will immediately enjoy free movement of workers).
