Brussels, 22/12/2003 (Agence Europe) - Last week, the European Parliament rejected European Commission proposals aiming for the uniform use of VAT regulations on private and public operators in the postal sector. It did so by returning to the Committee the report by Olle Schmidt (ELDR, Swedish), by 278 votes against 253 and 12 abstentions. The Commission indicated that it regrets this decision, but will not withdraw its proposals (over which the Parliament is merely consulted).
