Brussels, 06/11/2003 (Agence Europe) - The Italian Presidency and the European Commission are organising the European nanotechnology forum from 9 to 12 December in Trieste. This event will be opened by Commissioner Philippe Busquin and the Italian Minister G. Possa. Ten themed sessions will allow for the assessment of progress achieved in fields where nanotechnology may have uses: materials, biotechnology and biomedicine, diagnostic tools and intelligent systems, electronics, energy (photovoltaic structures and the storage of hydrogen, among others), robotics and optic systems. Among the speakers we should note the Russian Deputy Minister for Industry A. Fursenko, the Nobel Prize winner H. Kroto (University of Sussex), the President of the European Ethics Group Göran Hermeren who will broach the ethical aspects of nanotechnologies, the Vice-President of the Japanese Science Council, T. Kishi, M. V. Kovalchuk, member of the Russian Academy of Science, the national coordinator for nanotechnology initiatives in the United states, M. C. Roco, the Slovenian Minister for Education S. Gaber and the former Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres.
