EU tobacco producers join forces against draft reform of sector - two opposing camps in Council

Brussels, 06/11/2003 (Agence Europe) - European tobacco planters have joined forces to oppose the "hypocritical" plan to reform the sector, to be discussed on 17 November by the Agriculture Ministers of the EU. Recent debates within the Special Committee on Agriculture (SCA) confirmed that there are two groups of Member States with diametrically opposed interests. The Commission will adopt legislative proposals on 18 November.
