Ecofin Council in charge of Mr Trichet's appointment

Porto Carras, 20/06/2003 (Agence Europe) - The appointment of Banque de France's governor, Jean-Claude Trichet, to the chairmanship of the European Central Bank is to be decided at the October European Council (16 and 17 October in Brussels: Ed), Costas Simitas has said. The Thessaloniki Summit was not able to take such a decision, so soon after Mr Trichet had been acquitted in the Crédit Lyonnais scandal in France. The Finance Ministers and the European Parliament must debate the issue...
