Joint Council accepts Timor as 78th member of ACP-EU partnership - Opinions differ over trade negotiations and Cancún conference

Brussels, 16/05/2003 (Agence Europe) - Acceptance of East Timor's accession to the Cotonou Agreement was the main formal decision adopted by the ACP/EU Council of Ministers which came to a close on Friday in Brussels. The presence for the very first time of ministers from the ten EU acceding countries allowed discussion on the opportunities that enlargement would bring for the ACP/EU partnership and helped to calm certain fears expressed by ACP countries that their interests would be pushed...
