EUR 900 million for compensating victims of oil pollution

Brussels, 16/05/2003 (Agence Europe) - The Commissioner in charge of transport, Loyola de Palacio, welcomed the new protocol adopted on Friday by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), which increases the level International Oil Pollution Compensation Funds (IOPCF). This new protocol established a fund that is five times higher than the amount of current compensation to around EUR 900 million.
