Mr Prodi agrees to public debate suggested by Valéry Giscard d'Estaing but wants it to take place at Convention

Brussels, 13/05/2003 (Agence Europe) - On 12 May, the President of the European Commission responded to Valéry Giscard d'Estaing's proposal for a public debate on the kind of future Presidency of the European Council (rotating or stable: see EUROPE 8 May p 5). Romano Prodi rose to the challenge set by the President of the European Convention but believes that this debate should focus on the overall institutional framework and take place at the Convention.
