THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) ep/zimbabwe

27/03/2003 (Agence Europe) - During Wednesday's plenary session of the EP, British Conservative Geoffrey van Orden hoped that war in Iraq would not allow people to forget occurrences elsewhere in the world, particularly in Zimbabwe. In the last few days we have learnt that some 500 people have been arrested for no reason, 250 of whom had to be treated in hospital for serious injuries, he said, denouncing the incident as an instance of the EU's failure to speak with one voice.
