Loan for "green" energy in United Kingdom

Luxembourg, 17/03/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Investment Bank (EIB) is to lend 10 million pounds sterling (circa 15 million euro) to United Utilities Green Energy Limited to fund projects in the renewable energy sector, in various parts of England and Wales. These projects, with investments of £20m, are based around installations for the production of wind energy, small-scale hydroelectric energy, and energy made from biomass and landfill gases. As different kinds of power station are used, which run on local sustainable energy sources, these investments will contribute to the development of sustainable energy generation in the UK, which, the EIB emphasises, is in line with British and European policies and the Kyoto protocol, the aim of which is to reduce consumption of fossil fuels and emissions of greenhouses gases.
