Strasbourg, 17/03/2003 (Agence Europe) - In its adoption on Thursday of a resolution of the case of Amina Lawal, the EP is pushing the Nigerian government to take all possible measures to suspend all executions and to put an end to the use of the death penalty. It invites the Supreme Islamic Court of Appeal in Katsina (the appeal hearing in the case of Amina Lawal will take place before this court on 25 March) to confirm its commitment to respect all the international agreements Nigeria belongs to in the field of human rights, and demands the immediate abrogation of all elements of Islamic law which run counter to international law.
