17/03/2003 (Agence Europe) - The Council Decision of 6 March 2003 establishing a Tripartite Social Summit for Growth and Employment has been published in Official Journal L70 of 14 March 2003. The task of the Summit is to ensure in compliance with the Treaty and with due regard for the powers of the institutions and the bodies of the Community, that the is a continuous concertation between the Council, the Commission and the social partners. It will consist of the Council Presidency and the two subsequent Presidencies, the Commission and the social partners, represented at the highest level. It will meet at least once a year, with a meeting being held before the Spring European Council. The decision to establish the Tripartite Social Summit came into force on 6 March 2003.
