Strasbourg, 17/03/2003 (Agence Europe) - In its adoption on Thursday of a resolution on Burma, the EP is insisting on re-launching dialogue with Aung San Suu Kyi. It has asked the SPDC to demonstrate its intention of arriving at a national reconciliation, fully supporting the mediation efforts between the SPDC and the "ethnic nationalities" permitted by the Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. It has called upon the military government to free all political prisoners, and has requested an end to forced labour and various human rights violations. It has also insisted that the EU's common position on Burma be reinforced by Council in April, adding to it a ban on foreign investment and other measures.
