Decision to demand compulsory military service remains competence of Member States

Luxembourg, 12/03/2003 (Agence Europe) - In its Dory decision, the European court of Justice indicated that EU Member States have the right to institute compulsory military service independently of the damage that this could cause to the professional careers of young people during the time spent during the break for national service. If Member States alone have the authority to take this decision, Community law does not apply.
