24/02/2003 (Agence Europe) - Relations between Europe and the United States against the backdrop of the new US national security strategy will be at the heart of the Western European Union Assembly's plenary session in Paris on 2/4 June. Luis Maria de Puig has produced a report on "Europe and the United States' new national security strategy: combating terrorism together", while another report, by Renzo Gubert, looks as "The United States' national security strategy and its impact on defence in Europe". Other reports to be considered include a report by Antonio Nazaré Pereira on "Security policy in an enlarged Europe"; Dario Rivolta on "The European Union's overall objective and NATO's Reaction Force"; and John Wilkinson on "European defence and maritime power". There are three reports on technical issues and aerospace: "Cooperation between European and Russian aerospace industries" by Jean-Marie Le Guen; "European space and defence activities and developing launcher independence" by Bill Etheringon; and "The future of the European air defence industry" by Luis Yanez Varnuevo. On the initiative of the Assembly's new President, Jan Dirk Blaauw, the Assembly has been renamed: "European Interparliamentary Assembly for Security and Defence".
