20/01/2003 (Agence Europe) - The EU is to contribute up to EUR 3 million (from the MEDA funds) to fund a World Bank programme intended for the International Centre for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), established in Syria. The programme covers the fight against desertification in Egypt, Tunisia, Jordan, the Palestinian Territories and Israel, in the context of a "regional initiative for management of dry areas".
