Commission proposes to levy VAT on energy supplies in Member State where buyer is established

Brussels, 09/12/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has adopted a proposal to levy VAT on electricity and natural gas in the Member State where the buyer is established. In a press release, Taxation Commissioner Frits Bolkestein said: "I hope that Member States will adopt it quickly given the deadline agreed by Energy Ministers recently on completely open gas and electricity markets for non-household customers by 2004 and for household customers by 2007."
