EP amends proposal on protection of geographic descriptions and name of origin for registration of new products

Brussels, 09/12/2002 (Agence Europe) - With the adoption last week (by 387 votes to 41 and 15 abstentions) of the report by Jean-Claude Fruteau (PES, France), the European Parliament amended a Commission proposal on the protection of geographical descriptions and names of origin (see EUROPE of 16 March, 2002), calling for the registration of new products such as mustard paste, pasta, wool or osier.
