Mr Prodi draws Kazakhstan President's attention to respect for human rights - economic co-operation progress

Brussels, 02/12/2002 (Agence Europe) - In discussions last Friday with Nursultan Nazarbayev, the President of Kazakhstan, President Prodi brought up the issues of EU relations and the Caucasian republic in the context of partnership and cooperation agreements. While welcoming the overall progress achieved, President Prodi, however, expressed his worries about respect for human rights and the increasingly difficult situation for the media and the opposition in Kazakhstan.
