Brussels, 02/12/2002 (Agence Europe) - EU-wide co-operation to boost the economic, social and environmental sustainability of European tourism, prospects for the industry, and plans to upgrade business impact assessment of regulation affecting it, will be high on the agenda at the European Tourism Forum 2002 held by the European Commission in Brussels on 10 December. The Forum will allow 400 participants from across Europe to debate how to improve sustainable competitiveness in the tourism sector. This Forum is part of the follow-up to the Commission's November 2001 Communication "Working together for the future of European Tourism". Erkki Liikanen, European Enterprise Commissioner said, "The output of the work by the Forum will enhance the prospects for EU tourism, by securing collaboration and stepping up information exchange, in addition to stimulating debate on the most important issues for tourism." The Forum also aims to strengthen the position and image of Europe as a diverse and attractive set of destinations.
