This concise document explains the role of the Ombudsman with the support of practical examples, indicates a press statement, which also outlines that this make the "Ombudsman "one of the first Community institutions to offer information on its site in Eastern and Central European languages. Mr Söderman explained that he wanted citizens in candidate countries to know what services we could offer them when they joined. The Ombudsman has already visited several candidate countries including recent trips to Poland, Romania and Cyprus. The communiqué indicates that the European Ombudsman is the third best known of the Community institutions in Poland (24 million Poles know it exists).
