European Left appeals for full employment

Brussels, 21/08/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Left for the United States of Europe of which Gianni Copetti is the Secretary sent a message to the European Convention condemning the dangers to the European social model, which he considers particularly threatened by the "inability of the Community to get back to full employment". In his appeal, Mr Copetti explained that full employment meant creating over a period of time, 30-50 million additional jobs, "which corresponded to the figure of the current working population in Germany". According to the European Left, this goal could be achieved if the EU was given a democratic constitution and the institutions were strong and independent in the way set out in the Memorandum by the Federal Network Voice for a European constitution in March at the Convention.
