Brussels, 21/08/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has announced a further allocation of €2 million for humanitarian operations in Angola. The funds are being channelled through the Humanitarian Aid Office (ECHO) and will supply emergency relief items for 15,000 needy families and the provision of primary health care for up to 200,000 people in areas with no coverage at present, as well as 2,000 severely malnourished children and 20,000 moderately malnourished youngsters. Since 1999, ECHO has provided humanitarian aid worth almost €45 million for the victims of the crisis, of which €12 million has been allocated during 2002.
