Brussels, 29/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - The meeting that brought together the ministers of the world's five major agricultural powers (EU, US, Japan, Australia and Canada), on Friday and Saturday in Nara, Japan, did not allow positions to come any closer on reducing farm subsidies and accelerating market opening, mainly after the United States had presented proposals limiting customs duties to 25% and placing a ceiling on subsidies of 5% of the production value (see EUROPE of 27 July, p.9)....
