Commissioners de Palacio, Bolkestein and Lamy express concern about US customs controls in ports of Le Havre and Rotterdam

Brussels, 09/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission may call on Member States to tighten their ranks against the vague impulse of the United States to organise anti-terrorist controls in European ports. The ports of Le Havre in France, Rotterdam in the Netherlands and Antwerp in Belgium have agreed to cooperate with the US authorities that wish to guarantee the quality of customs controls, in the context of the fight against terrorism and illegal immigration.
