07/05/2002 (Agence Europe) - John Cushnahan, EP Rapporteur on the EU/Pakistan agreement, felt that the recent referendum whereby President Musharref obtained a five-year extension to his mandate "has departed from the agreed 'roadmap to democracy' timetable". The real test for democracy in Pakistan will be the general elections to be held in October, added the Irish MEP. (See EUROPE of 25 April, p.6).
